Nineteenth-Century paintings depict a rich inner world where women sit unveiled , conversing, laughing, singing and dancing.

Attendants serve platters of delectable morsels and preside over a host of sensual beauty treatments. Others lie languidly on couches and richly-hued carpets as shafts of light mix with steam to create a mysterious fog in the confines of this uniquely feminine place.
